Kampot Governor Mao Thonin said construction of the city’s food street was nearing completion, with an opening planned around the Khmer New Year.
The buildings and vendors’ presentation will reflect Khmer culture and showcase hundreds of local foods and sweets.
During an inspection on March 24, 2026, the governor directed relevant departments to prepare local menus and required vendors to wear traditional Khmer clothing.
He said the street would offer more than recreation: it would support household incomes, preserve culture and provide an orderly, attractive and hygienic setting.
Provincial Tourism Department Director Soy Sinol said it would be a new tourism product combining architecture, clothing and cuisine, rather than merely a food market. A central Khmer-style building and hundreds of French colonial heritage buildings in the city are expected to help attract food tourism and support hospitality services.
