The National Police deputy commissioner-general and Phnom Penh police commissioner instructed deputy commissioners, specialist office chiefs and police chiefs in all 14 districts to strengthen leadership and implement the capital administration’s guidance on security, safety and public order during Khmer Traditional New Year.
With permission from National Police Commissioner-General General Sar Thet, Lieutenant General Chhuon Narin, deputy commissioner-general and Phnom Penh police commissioner, chaired a meeting on the afternoon of March 31, 2026. It reviewed first-quarter security, public order and social safety operations, set second-quarter tasks, and outlined protection plans for Khmer New Year and the capital’s Nokor Sankranta event.
He instructed criminal investigation and security offices and district police commands to strengthen their monitoring and understanding of the security situation, particularly potential public disorder and suspected theft, snatching, robbery and youth-gang activity, to make prevention effective.
He called for intervention forces to remain ready for orders and for stronger protection plans at pagodas, entertainment venues and resorts, with deployments properly supervised.
He urged attention to traffic management, particularly outbound flows at busy times and congestion-prone locations, so residents could travel promptly and safely.
He instructed officers to prepare firefighting and rescue vehicles for any fires.
He called for public guidance against water-gun play, powder-smearing and water-throwing, encouraged traditional Khmer games, and urged fire precautions and properly locking homes before leaving. Routine local patrols and checks were to be strengthened to protect property. Written by Pai Sokhim
