As of early July 2026, construction of the water-control structure on the Stoung River had reached approximately 60% of the overall project. The project is expected to become an important irrigation source for 2,750 hectares of wet-season rice and 825 hectares of dry-season rice.
On the afternoon of July 3, ថាំង វីយុទ្ធដា, director of the Engineering Department, represented Water Resources and Meteorology Minister ថោ ជេដ្ឋា in leading technical officials to inspect construction progress at Banteay Stoung, in Banteay Stoung commune, Stoung district, Kampong Thom province.
The department director said the structure has an important role in receiving water from the local rainfall catchment and flows from the “30 September” reservoir dam, which then continue along the Stoung River towards Tonle Sap Lake.
Once construction is fully completed, the project is expected to supply irrigation for 2,750 hectares of wet-season rice and 825 hectares of dry-season rice. It will also directly support the daily water needs of about 2,880 farming households across 14 villages in Banteay Stoung commune.
The Engineering Department director commended the progress and instructed the site manager and technical teams to continue paying close attention to efficient management and use of machinery.
He stressed strict compliance with the project’s technical requirements to ensure solid, durable construction and accelerate work in line with the approved schedule.
