Fisheries Administration officers, working with Peam Ro district authorities in Prey Veng province, carried out an operation against illegal fishing in the កំពង់ចំណា conservation area. They confiscated and destroyed various illegal fishing devices and released more than 10 kilograms of mixed juvenile fish back into a natural lake to help conserve fisheries resources.
The operation took place on July 22 in the កំពង់ចំណា conservation area in បាបោង commune, Peam Ro district, Prey Veng province. It was led by Deputy District Governor ប៉ែត សាវេន, with fisheries officers and the district committee for preventing fisheries offences taking part.
ហ៊ុន សាវី, Deputy Chief of the ស្ទឹងស្លូត Fisheries Administration Sangkat, said that, to protect and preserve fishery resources, particularly during the closed fishing season, fisheries officers regularly work with local authorities to patrol rivers, creeks and conservation areas to prevent illegal fishing.
During the patrol, the team found mosquito-net barriers secretly installed at several locations in the conservation area and immediately confiscated and destroyed them on site.
The authorities confiscated 650 metres of illegal mosquito netting, 340 stakes and 12 mosquito-net fishing traps. All the illegal fishing gear was burned, while more than 10 kilograms of mixed juvenile fish were released back into the natural lake to continue growing and replenish wild fish stocks.
Fisheries officers called on all residents and fishers to comply with fisheries law and stop using illegal fishing gear, so that fishery resources can be conserved sustainably for present and future generations.
